Some time ago, I watched a movie named "Indecent Proposal†(1999) starring Demi Moore. She was an iconic figure of Hollywood in the 90s'. Inspired by her acting and her beauty, I got an urge to watch a few more of her movies. That's how I came across the movie "Disclosure", released in 1994. "Disclosure" was a 2h 8 mins long erotic thriller directed by Barry Levinson. This cinematic adaptation of the book "Disclosure" by Michael Crichton became a financial success by recording a box office revenue of $214 million against its $50 million budget. The story unfolds in a computer industry setting in the USA in the mid-90s. Tom Sanders (Michael Douglas) is the production manager of a company called 'DigiCom'. He is happily married and a father of two children. His boss, the CEO of the company, Bob Garvin (Donald Sutherland) is expecting to retire after his company merges with a larger company. Tom is also expecting to get promoted to run the CD-ROM division. But to everyone's surprise, Meredith Johnson (Demi Moore), an ex-lover of Tom's, gets the promotion as their boss wanted to "break the glass ceiling" and promote a woman. Later that day, when Meredith calls Tom into her office to discuss about some problems in the production line, she tries to seduce him into having sex with her. Initially, Tom goes along with her desires to engage himself in erotic foreplay, but then refuses to continue their act once he realises that he has a family now. Meredith, being furious because of his sudden change of mind, threatens him verbally as he leaves her office. From that point onward, it was all about how both of these individuals react to this 'incident' and how it affects their normal lives as well as the future of their company. The complete story consists of interesting twists, trials, and lawsuits with some eye-candy in between. “Disclosure†received mixed reviews from critics and famous review sites, as it got a IMDB score of 6.1/10 and 60% in Rotten Tomatoes. Although some people who watched the movie have expressed their thoughts on how offensive and misogynistic this movie is towards women, I believe this story unveils a hidden aspect of sexual harassment in workplaces. Even though it is not very common, men can be victims of sexual harassment as much as women. And when those men ought to seek justice, they will have to face extreme social criticism just like women. They will have to experience each and every ugly thing that female victims have to face, in spite of the gender and social class. And this issue is still there in this "global village". Even though Johnny Depp received justice after a long time, can you be satisfied about Will Smith's fate? Just think about it. After all, "harassment" is not just about gender. It is about power. And this rare piece of art shows that powerful women can be as just as ruthless as powerful men.
