"Vibhava Literary Association" is a flourishing, diverse & the most sought-after students’ organization in the University of Peradeniya, with its own “Vibhava” magazine, poetry evenings, musical events, workshops, panel discussions, forums, film making and many aesthetic happenings as regular activities.
Art and literature are believed to possess a unique place in the developed world as a human-made dimension of entertainment brought into existence in order to nourish himself, and as a fundamental unit of structure in various creations. Besides, it is considered to be a crucial aspect in wellbeing of cultural and social existence. Unfortunately, it is being distracted from the existing society. Despite all these chaos, members of Vibhava are given the rare chance of accessing to various genres of art and drastically different opinions on "art and culture", while encouraging them to make headway in artistic creations of their own.
Based on a sound organizational structure, Vibhava also provides a sense of community that binds all the members together, while cultivating perceptive and artistic abilities in them.
VISION
To provide Sri Lankan youth the rare opportunity of accessing various genres of art, and being exposed to drastically different opinions on "art and culture".
MISSION
To provide a sense of community that binds the Sri Lankans together, while cultivating perceptive and artistic abilities in individuals with a genuine passion for art and literature, with the aim of uplifting the status of art and literature within the country by steering them to achieve the mastery of aesthetics and to embark on developing their own creations.
A remarkable series of weekly online events, captivating thousands of audiences all around, streamed live on Facebook from 9th June to 14th July, 2021. This series of events focused on many untold aspects of Art and Culture with the presence of many veteran and admired artists and professionals in the relevant fields. Among the numerous series of events organized by the University of Peradeniya in the recent past, this was one of the most sucessfully organized.
The events were as follows,
1. "Ranga Dhaara" - An insight into short films with artist Ishara Wickramasinghe and Senior Lecturer Dr. Priyantha Fonseka.
2. "Hadakin Hadakata" - A voice dubbing programme with veteran artist Lal Sarath Kumara
3. "Kadapathak Woo Thirapataya" - Movie review of "Funny Boy" - A film by Deepa Mehta, addressing ethnic and homosexual issues in Sri Lanka - with most acclaimed artists Visakesa Chandrasekaram and Brandon Ingram.
4. "Roopa Mawana Akuru" - A script writing event with popular artists Lakmal Dharmarathna and Kalana Gunasekara.
5. "Wes Roo Karaliya" - An insight into traditional Sri Lankan dramas - "Kolam" - with veteran artists Prof. Lionel Bentharage and Manoshika Wijesooriya.
6. "Huyak Aga Radi Thathu" - insight into local puppetry with traditional artist Supun Gamini.
For the very first time in Sri Lanka, Vibhava introduced a meme competition for Sri Lankan undergraduates who are enthusiastic in meme making. Out of thousands of entries, winners were announced under the two categories creative and popular, giving away many exciting rewards. Representing the judge board, popular artists, Manitha Abeysiriwardena, Ravi Jay, Chinthana Dharmadasa and Dr. Janaka Wijayakulasooriya added lustre to the grand closing ceremony held on June 21st, 2021, via Zoom.
